Nkiz: Crafting Waves and Unleashing Versatility from the Heart of Peckham

Diving deep into the tapestry of Nkiz’s musical odyssey, we unravel the story of a hidden gem from Peckham, South East London. Formerly known as Nk, the artist opens up about the turning points that propelled him from secret rap sessions to international recognition.

“I recorded myself on WhatsApp with a beat in the background and sent it to my bredrins Maresz and Kwengface. From their reactions, I knew I had to get in the booth for real,” recalls Nkiz, detailing the precise moment when his dormant passion for music erupted into a full-fledged career.

Intriguingly, Nkiz points to the influence of NBA YoungBoy, confiding, "I was heavily influenced by his style. I kept my raps to myself, but that's exactly how I used to rap—fast flows and melodies. I just didn't have the confidence to showcase it." Acknowledging the local inspiration from Kwengface, he adds, "Seeing someone from my neighborhood make it fueled my belief that it was possible."

Nkiz proudly asserts his artistic identity, stating, "I'm a very versatile artist. I can't be put in a box. I'm an artist, not just a rapper. It's more about my delivery, distinctive voice, and the various flows I can use." With a nod to his influences including Future, Veeze, YoungBoy, and his own journey as Kiz, Nkiz shares his optimism for the UK rap scene, noting, "It's better than before and more accepted worldwide, but there's still space for a new sound."

The artist takes us behind the scenes, explaining, "I usually listen to beats until something clicks. Then, I either come up with a hook or just start the verse from there." Reflecting on his creative ritual, Nkiz humorously admits, "I do wanna start getting into the habit of not needing to smoke to write or record, but for now, that’s the inspiration."

Nkiz opens up about facing the challenge of expressing himself through singing, revealing, "Putting myself out there doing the sing melody thing was a challenge. I’m not the perfect singer, and the first time I put a track out like that, I actually deleted it before it could take off. It was called 'Music Has No Rules.' Since then, I’ve been doing things to improve that which has made me confident in the booth like vocal lessons."

Engaging with his fans primarily through Instagram and Snapchat, Nkiz foresees increased offline interactions as his visibility grows. Reminiscing about a memorable fan encounter, he shares, "There was a time I was walking through my hood, and some school kids went past me and they were like 'Nkiz.' It made me laugh because one, I forgot I started doing music, and two, I didn’t think people would match the face to the name without a video or much social presence at that time."

Projects and Future Plans:

In a tantalizing revelation, Nkiz unveils, "I got 4 EPs done, all different vibes—2 solo projects, 2 collaborations. They should be dropping this year for sure." With unwavering confidence, he envisions, "Musically, if I stay consistent and release as planned, I will be a much more known artist than I am atm."

In conclusion, Nkiz's journey emerges as a captivating narrative of resilience, evolution, and a commitment to pushing boundaries. As he prepares to release his diverse EPs, the rising star from Peckham is not just breaking into the rap scene; he's creating waves that promise to resonate far beyond South East London. Watch out for Nkiz—a force to be reckoned with in the ever-evolving tapestry of the global music landscape.
